playing wow [General] — boro @ 3:37 pm

So I have been playing WoW (World of Warcraft) for about a couple of weeks now, and I am running into a rather disturbing conclusion, it is hard to put down. For instance, I usually go to bed around midnight every night and (try to) get up at 7:00. Well last week I was up almost every night until 1:00pm or later. Of course, this cut into my sleep time and affected my ability to get to work on time. It seems that this is how things tend to work with me. I will get very into one thing or another and then after the initial rush, I am able to balance things out much better. In fact, the last few days that has been the case with WoW as well. Although I am still enjoying myself just as much, I have leveled (no pun intended) myself back out and am back to my normal bed time of midnight. It is amazing how one sweet game (book, tv show, etc.) can grab my totally grab my interest.

just stay off [Security] — boro @ 10:12 am

I so love it when software decides that it knows better than I do about what I want. It’s as if it says “He turned that off, but he didn’t really mean it, so I will turn it back on because that is what I think is best.”

Case in point is Norton Antivirus 2006. In the installer you have the option to select if you would like to enable Internet Worm Protection, which disables the windows firewall and uses the Norton product instead. Because of the computer systems that I am working on, it wouldn’t make any sense to use Norton’s Internet Worm Protection, so I went ahead and unchecked the box in the installer/configurator. After rebooting, guess what, Internet Worm Protection has been re-enabled. The Norton installer, in all it’s wisdom (read heavy sarcasm), decided that Internet Worm Protection should be enabled, regardless of what I told it to do in the configurator. I think this is really moronic, because if I tell something to stay off, it should just stay off!

so I finally gave in [General] — boro @ 9:26 am

Yup, I finally gave in and tried WoW (World of Warcraft). I had resisted the temptation for a while now because my computer wasn’t powerful enough and/or I didn’t want to spend the money on a monthly subscription plus buying the game. However, now my excuses were totally gone. My computer got a nice upgrade recently, so I can play the game well, my brother gave me his extra copy of the game, so that saved my that cost, and my wife and I talked over the subscription fee and decided it was a good deal.

So after deciding those things, I finally gave the game a try. Using the 10 day trial that my bro sent me, I quickly found myself thoroughly enjoying the game. Although I am still in the 10 day trial period, I went ahead and used the subscription key and setup my next month’s payment. After about one week of playing my dwarf warrior is up to level 16 and I am really enjoying myself. Now that only thing I need to figure out is how to get more sleep!
